Home Modification
[definition]
What does Home Modification mean?

Home modification is the process by which one makes the necessary changes in their home, so that a physically disabled family member has easy access to all the rooms. Home modification is a measure which should be taken in order for the disabled person to become unconstrained by the circumstances. For instance removing doorsteps so that an individual has access with his/her wheelchair everywhere is a good example of home modification.

Home Modification explained

Costs of a home modification can significantly vary, as there are examples where such drastic changes are needed, that it actually becomes very expensive. It certainly always depends on the needs of a person, whether he/she lives alone and has to make modifications to fit all their needs, or with other family members which can offer additional support. Obtaining financing where home modification would cost a few thousand dollars is possible, and turning to the National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modifications for further support will definitely be of great help.
